Steam Dome Replacement Flange
The steam dome on a boiler from the Talyllin Railway, No 3 on Ndt inpsection failed due to cracking along a orginal firewelded seam, together with signs of circumfernecial cracking.
On consultaion with British Eng ltd, it was decided to cut off the original steam dome and replace with a new machined forging.
We produced drawings of the orginal steam dome flange, which once approved was manufactured for us using a certified Flange forging.
Once this was ready to fit, we removed the old flange and refitted the new steam dome flange to match the orginal orientation, and then tig welded the flange to the exsisting boiler steam dome.
The flange weld passed British Eng Ltd inpsection and extensive Ndt
